Meet Tracey
MUSIC THERAPY
My love of music started when I was little and Nanny would play “Darktown Strutters Ball” on the piano and my Mom, Aunt, cousins and I would dance along. I started playing piano when I was six years old and knew that I wanted to be a music therapist when I was 16.
I received my Bachelors of Music from Berklee College of Music in Boston, and my Masters of Science from Molloy College on Long Island. I have been a board certified music therapist since 2005 and have worked with numerous populations, including geriatrics, special needs pre-school, children in a residential foster program, and medically fragile children. When not musicing, I love spending time with my son, Brady, and my husband, Scott. I love reading and I’ve loved introducing Brady to the library and the magic of books.

Meet Gorman
SPECIAL EDUCATION
Gorman Ruggiero started working with Children on the Autism Spectrum in 1982, when most children were not being diagnosed. At that time they were called ‘challenged children’ and Gorman began developing modified acting techniques to teach them fundamental communication skills. Ruggiero was a Conservatory Trained Classical Actor and found that these techniques could be used therapeutically very early on. Gorman worked at numerous schools, community centers, mental health centers and colleges setting up programs for his Communication Skills Process (CSP), LLC where group work was vital to improving the lives of special needs children and their parents.
Ruggiero developed CSP programs at Philadelphia Mental Health Center, Delaware Valley Childrens Center, Bristol Township School District, SUNY Purchase Psychology Program, Resources for Human Development in Philadelphia, and the King School and Edison School in Portchester N. Y., and several cities in China, among others.
Ruggiero is founder and Executive Director of World Theatre of Children (WToC) where he combined typically developing children and Children on the Autism Spectrum in the performance of plays and musicals. This work engaged siblings and parents in a community-wide process that helped in the education of people unfamiliar with Autism and/or special needs children.

Meet Jeff
Elementary Education, Special Education
Jeff recently retired from his 17 year career as an elementary classroom teacher. He taught for most of his career at Lake George Elementary School and also taught at Stillwater Elementary School prior to that. Jeff has taught grades 2-6 over the course of his career, but the majority of his years were in 5th and 6th grades. He has a Masters Degree in Elementary Education and holds his teaching certificate in Childhood Education Grades 1-6.
He believes student success and positive outcomes are a direct result of having high expectations and developing strong connections with students. His philosophy of “Know Your Players” has led to students working to exceed their own expectations and creating a positive culture within the classroom. Humor, brain breaks, and daily conversations with his students about life and the importance of being a good human were the biggest keys to both academic and social growth over the course of each school year.
Jeff has a great deal of experience working with general education and special education students through leading co-teach classes and instruction during intervention groups.
He has worked as a tutor privately over the past 5 years and is excited to be on the team at Nourishing Minds.
Meet Sofia
Math, Reading, Writing, Philosophy, Language
Having always had a strong passion for teaching, I focus on understanding each student’s unique learning style and needs. I assess current skill levels, identify specific areas for growth, and design customized lesson plans and worksheets that make learning both effective and enjoyable. I take pride in helping students not only strengthen their academic skills but also build confidence, curiosity, and a genuine love for learning.
I graduated from Siena College with degrees in Philosophy and Classics. Though my studies centered on the humanities, I have always excelled in math and science. My background in Latin and Ancient Greek has sharpened my grammar and communication skills, while philosophy has trained me to read complex texts, think critically, and write persuasively. This diverse academic foundation allows me to connect ideas across disciplines and adapt my teaching approach to each student’s individual strengths and challenges.
I began tutoring in early high school, helping out my friends and younger brothers with math. I quickly realized how rewarding it was to see them succeed. Since then, I have worked with students of all ages and abilities across a wide range of subjects. Whether supporting a struggling learner or challenging an advanced student, I tailor my approach to ensure each one feels supported, capable, and motivated to reach their full potential.
Meet Hannah
General Education, Special Education
I have loved the idea of teaching since I was a little girl playing “school” at home with my brother. After graduating high school in 2011, I wanted to be a part of as many classrooms as I could in order to get as much experience as possible! Throughout college I worked as a teaching assistant at a preschool for students with Autism and other developmental delays. It was here that I truly found my passion for watching students learn and make growth. I moved into a special education teacher role as soon as I graduated college and it was all downhill from there! I now have over ten years of teaching experience that has built me into the special education teacher that I am today!
As my career has grown, I have spread my knowledge to larger schools and started to focus on older students as well. Currently, I hold several NYS teaching certifications covering all ages (Birth-grade 12). Tutoring has allowed me the opportunity to utilize my skills and knowledge in an individualized manner where I can develop rapport in order to best meet the needs of the individual student! Every child is different, I love having the opportunity to tailor my teaching strategies to be exactly what each child needs!

I grew up in Guilderland, NY and recently moved back to the area. I am currently working as an elementary reading specialist at an independent school. Prior to this position I was working in public schools as a reading specialist and later a special education teacher. I have had the pleasure of teaching students on the autism spectrum, as well as a variety of other unique needs. I am very familiar with the range of support that students can benefit from and am able to differentiate based on their needs. No matter what diagnosis a student may have, I see them as a kid who is capable of learning. I prioritize making personal connections to my students in order for them to feel safe and gain their trust. I aim to make learning fun, hands on, and engaging. I am able to create this learning environment both online or in-person.
I completed my education in Beverly, Massachusetts at Endicott College. I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in moderate special education, and sheltered english immersion (SEI) endorsement. Meet Jeff
History
I began my teaching career in 1980 after graduating from Siena College with a degree in Education and History. My early career was a whirlwind, teaching Social Studies 7 and 8 as well as classes outside of my certification area. In addition to my teaching assignments I enjoyed coaching and tutoring. Also during those early years I earned my Masters degree in United States History from SUNY Albany.
Eventually I was fortunate to settle into what became an incredible career at Ravena Coeymans Selkirk CSD. During those years I had the opportunity and privilege to work with thousands of students.
While creating and implementing lessons was always an important and enjoyable part of the job, my greatest strength was helping those students who, for whatever reason, were not reaching their academic and social potential. The desire to help those students kept me involved with various alternative education programs over the years.
After my retirement in 2014 I began taking extended roadtrips across the United States and throughout Europe and have made many new friends along the way. I also love to draw and paint and enjoy sharing those skills with interested students. Being an avid reader my favorite question for every student is “so what are you reading now?”.
I resumed my career in 2024 by serving as a substitute teacher filling in for Social Studies and ELA teachers at Guilderland High School. It felt good to be back in the classroom and working with so many great kids once again. What was not so great was getting up, ready and out the door by 6:30! Which brought me to tutoring, I was hired by Ballston Spa in September and am now very excited to be joining Nourishing Minds.
In addition to my experience teaching at the middle school level I have also taught AP United States History, Global I and II, Economics, and Participation in Government at the high school level.
Meet Dora
Early Childhood, Elementary, Special Ed
Having had the amazing opportunity of working with students from third world countries like India and off the grid places like rural Alaska, my unique traveling experience has shaped my cultural acceptance and adaptation into my classroom. I believe that students can not learn if they do not feel welcomed and it is my mission to create an inclusive environment. My teaching philosophy is also driven by the idea that one size does not fit all. Students learn in many different ways and there are many ways to achieve the same goal. I like to provide my students with options and I also like including a lot of hands-on movement projects.
I graduated from SUNY New Paltz and have a NYS teaching certificate in both early childhood and childhood education. Being the lead teacher in a special education preschool has made me very familiar with following IEP’s, attending CSE meetings and making accommodations to my lessons. Other than education I am from Hunter Mountain, love skiing and on the weekends I am a lift operator.
Here’s what our clients say about Nourishing Minds:
Chris has been a lifesaver for us! He started tutoring our son 2 summers ago, when we found out he was behind and at risk of having to repeat a year of math. Chris came to our house and tutored our son twice a week that summer and got him to where he needed to be by the fall, no repeating a year of math!! He is knowledgable about the various school curriculums, great with the kids, instills confidence and gives you a report after each session.
Almost two years later, Chris is still coming on a weekly basis and it helps to keep our son on task…. plus, we’re not ready to let Chris go just yet!
We have used Nourishing Minds for six years for math tutoring. Our tutor, Tziona, is excellent and both my kids really enjoy working with her. She is skilled in all courses of middle school and high school math. Tziona is also flexible with schedule changes when things come up, which is great, so we don’t miss a beat.
I have recently requested a physics tutor and he will be coming next week. I would highly recommend Nourishing Minds for Tutoring.
Chris tutored my young son for several years, following a dyslexia diagnosis. He was very patient and implemented several strategies to improve my son’s reading and phonics ability.
His initial assessment and advice was extremely useful when we requested Special Ed services from our district. I would highly recommend Chris, and Nourishing Minds tutoring services for any child who is struggling in school!
Our family has been very impressed by Nourishing Minds. Chris Leuzinger, the founder and owner of Nourishing Minds, is thoughtful, kind, and very professional. His tutoring organization is uniquely versed in tutoring for neurotypicals but also for special needs. Chris also has extensive experience as an educator and is able to speak the language of school districts and work effectively with them. In our case, our child has non-speaking level 3 autism and past trauma experiences around education and and requires a very skilled, structured, yet loving and supportive tutor. Chris has worked with us to identify a wonderful tutor for our son. Our son indicates that he really feels like his Nourishing Minds tutor believes in him and his ability to learn and improve, something he indicates he hasn’t experienced in a long time from a teacher.
Our son’s Nourishing Minds tutor also has very unique understanding of motor issues and how these can impact the child’s ability to demonstrate knowledge and progress in the traditional school system. It has been a refreshing experience to work with the Nourishing Minds group.
Chris has been tutoring our son, William for two years and we are thrilled with his progress. He was transferring from a private school into the public school system. Through the placement exam, we discovered that William was behind in math compared to his peer group in the public school system. The goal was to help him reach grade level and pass the entrance exam into the enriched math program.
With Chris’ help, he was successful and is now taking enriched math and doing very well. More importantly, he is no longer anxious but is confident and enjoying math! Chris continues to work with William and provides an additional level of support. William can review concepts that he may not have fully understood in class in a judgment free setting. Chris also works with our schedule should conflicts arise. William looks forward to his tutoring sessions with Chris.
Nourishing Minds is excellent. Would highly recommend their professional team of qualified tutors.
Nourishing Minds Tutoring has been a tremendous help to our 7-year old son, and we couldn’t be happier with our decision to work with them. Nourishing Minds strikes the perfect balance – motivating our son to work hard and encouraging him to take pride in his work, while still keeping the atmosphere fun and loose.
In looking for a tutor we knew we wanted someone who would teach our son how to learn, as opposed to just teaching facts or information. His tutor does just that, tailoring his tutoring methods to fit our son’s personality and learning style. We feel such relief knowing that our son is gaining skills that will make him a more independent and analytical learner in the future.
We were referred to Nourishing Minds by friends of ours, and it felt a bit like being let into a best kept secret. We are having an outstanding experience. Both of our elementary school aged children have gained confidence in themselves since we started working with Nourishing Minds. They’ve also learned a lot of new tactics for understanding, breaking down, and solving math problems.
Schools are teaching math in very new and helpful ways, but as a parent who learned this “the old way,” it can be difficult to support kids when I don’t even understand the new methods. In every way, working with Nourishing Minds has been the right move!
Two of my children had the opportunity to work with Chris regarding some gaps in their literacy development in 1st and 2nd grade. He did an incredible job working with them. Lessons were prepared well and information was provided to me at each session to allow me to see their progress and skill development.
They made excellent progress and filled the gaps with solid foundational understanding. They are now in middle and high school and I credit Chris with helping them to learn and reinforce those critical foundational skills.
Chris has been tutoring my son in math for 4 or 5 years now. We mostly utilize him so my son stays on top of his lessons and any questions can be answered as they arise. My son consistently earns top marks.
Chris is patient but also firm…He does not give the answers but helps him to work through problems to find the solution. He has helped build my son’s confidence. We highly recommend!
Chris and his team have been assisting our family with our tutoring needs for a few years. We have seen some great results with both of our kids grades. Would highly recommend.
Nourishing Minds Tutoring has been tutoring our son since 2015. It has been a great experience for him and for us.

He utilizes many creative and unique teaching techniques that have helped our son a great deal. He enjoys the sessions and his grades have improved significantly.
We highly recommend Nourishing Minds Tutoring.
