Pod Learning

Families are starting to look at alternative ways to educate their children.  Pod learning is a great option for children to have opportunities for social interactions while learning material that is tailored to their grade level and individual learning needs. 

Nourishing Minds Tutoring has three different pod models:

Homeschooling

  • The teacher provides individualized instruction for students based on Common Core State Standards.
  • The teacher plans and implements all instruction using evidence-based curriculum.
  • Pods are based on age ranges to effectively meet students’ needs.
    • K-2, 3-5, 6-8
  • Instruction focuses on areas of ELA and Math.

Proctor

  • The family purchases an online homeschool curriculum. (Suggestions for curriculum options can be made by Nourishing Minds Tutoring).
  • The teacher supports students to complete lessons within curriculum.
  • The teacher supplements and individualizes additional practice as needed.
  • Pod structure structure would typically follow a traditional school day, but can be tailored to each Pod based on the individual needs of the families.
  • Pods are based on age ranges to effectively meet students’ needs.
    • K-2, 3-5, 6-8.

Hybrid

2-3 days per week
  • The teacher works closely with family to ensure that children are completing virtual work sent home from school on days that home instruction is expected.
  • The teacher works with each child in the Pod on a 1:1 basis each day.
  • The teacher can answer questions and keep students on track during independent practice.
  • The teacher supplements instruction to fill in learning gaps as needed.
  • Pod structure would typically follow a traditional school day, but can be tailored to each Pod based on the individual needs of the families.
  • Pods are based on age ranges to effectively meet students’ needs.
    • K-2, 3-5, 6-8.

Other Services Included:

  • Consultation(s) to finalize all details of the program.
  • Support to families to ensure all homeschool requirements are met (e.g. paperwork)
  • Assigned homework as appropriate.
  • Detailed attendance records.
  • All assessment – both summative and formative.
  • Monthly written reports indicating subject areas taught and progress made.
  • Quarterly reporting (as mandated by the New York State Education Department).
  • Quarterly parent conferences.
  • Standardized testing (as mandated by the New York State Education Department).
  • Year-end report card.
